Summer is one of my favorite times of the year, but it’s also when our skin works overtime. Between the Texas heat, humidity, sunscreen, sweat, swimming, and extra time outdoors, your skin can start acting a little different than it did during the cooler months.
If you’ve noticed more breakouts, oily skin, dry patches, or stubborn dark spots, you’re definitely not alone. The good news? A few simple adjustments to your routine can make a big difference.
1. Sunscreen Isn’t Optional
If there’s one product you shouldn’t skip this summer, it’s sunscreen.
Daily SPF helps protect your skin from premature aging, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. Even if you’re mostly indoors, UV rays can still reach your skin through windows, and those quick trips outside add up.
Aim for a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and don’t forget to reapply every two hours if you’re spending time outside.
2. Don’t Let Sweat Sit on Your Skin
Sweating is completely normal, but when sweat mixes with oil, makeup, and bacteria, it can clog pores and lead to breakouts.
After working out or spending time outside, cleanse your face as soon as you can. If you’re away from home, keeping gentle cleansing wipes or micellar water in your bag can help until you’re able to wash your face properly.
3. Hydration Starts From the Inside
Drinking enough water won’t magically erase wrinkles, but staying hydrated helps your body function at its best—and your skin often reflects that.
Pair your water intake with a lightweight moisturizer to help your skin hold onto that hydration, even in the summer heat.
4. Exfoliate… But Don’t Overdo It
Dead skin, sunscreen, and excess oil can build up faster during the summer, making gentle exfoliation an important part of your routine.
The key word is gentle. Over-exfoliating can damage your skin barrier, leaving your skin irritated and even more sensitive to the sun.
Less is often more.
5. Treat Sun Exposure With Care
Spent a little too much time in the sun?
Focus on calming and replenishing your skin. Ingredients like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides can help restore moisture and support your skin barrier while it recovers.
6. Professional Treatments Can Help
Summer doesn’t mean you have to put your skincare goals on hold.
Professional facials, dermaplaning, and other customized treatments can help remove buildup, improve your skin’s texture, and keep your complexion looking refreshed. Depending on your skin and your summer plans, certain treatments may be more appropriate than others, so it’s always important to choose services that fit your individual needs.
Healthy Skin Is Built One Day at a Time
There’s no magic product that creates healthy skin overnight. Consistency is what makes the biggest difference.
Cleanse your skin. Wear your sunscreen. Stay hydrated. Moisturize. Give your skin a little extra care after long days in the sun.
Small habits practiced every day often lead to the biggest results over time.
I’d love to hear from you!
