Self-Care Sunday: Sometimes You Just Need a Little Time With You

Sundays have a different feel to them. Things slow down just enough for you to realize how much you’ve been doing all week—and how little time you may have actually spent connecting with yourself.

We talk about self-care all the time. Massages, vacations, brunch, shopping, taking a day off. And yes, I love all of that. But self-care doesn’t always have to be a big production. Sometimes it can be as simple as standing in front of the mirror, taking your time with your skincare routine, and giving yourself 15 uninterrupted minutes.

No rushing. No multitasking. No worrying about what everybody else needs.

Just you.

Turn Your Skincare Routine Into a Ritual

There’s a difference between washing your face because you need to and actually taking the time to care for your skin.

Tonight, make it a ritual.

Put your phone down. Turn the TV off. Play some music you love. Dim the lights if you want. Pull your hair back and start with a slow cleanse.

If you wear makeup or sunscreen, begin with a cleansing balm or oil and gently massage it into your skin. Don’t rush to rinse it off. Use your fingertips and make small circles across your forehead, cheeks and jawline.

Then follow with your regular cleanser. Again—slow down. Massage your cleanser into your skin for about a minute and actually pay attention to how your skin feels.

That alone can feel completely different when you aren’t treating it like another chore on your list.

Give Yourself a Mini Facial at Home

After cleansing, this is the perfect time for a little extra care.

Use a gentle exfoliant if it’s appropriate for your skin and part of your normal routine. Follow it with a hydrating or targeted mask and then…do absolutely nothing for a few minutes.

Seriously.

Sit down.

Close your eyes.

Take a few deep breaths.

You don’t have to answer a text. You don’t have to check social media. You don’t have to figure out tomorrow yet.

Let your mask work while you enjoy being still.

Slow Down When You Apply Your Products

Once your mask is removed, finish with your normal skincare products.

Instead of quickly rubbing everything in, take your time.

Apply your serum and gently press it into your skin.

Follow with your moisturizer, using slow upward motions across your face and neck. Give yourself a light facial massage around your temples, jawline and forehead.

And while you’re looking in the mirror, check in with the person looking back at you.

How are you really doing?

What do you need this week?

What can you give yourself a little more grace about?

That’s the part of skincare we don’t talk about enough.

Your Skin Gets Your Attention—and So Do You

Of course, a good skincare routine supports healthy skin. But there’s something else happening during those few quiet minutes.

You’re choosing yourself.

For 10, 15 or 20 minutes, nobody else gets that time. You’re touching your skin with intention, noticing changes, learning what it needs and giving yourself permission to slow down.

And sometimes that little reset is exactly what you need before Monday comes knocking.

Your Self-Care Sunday doesn’t have to be elaborate.

Cleanse your face. Apply your favorite products. Light a candle. Put on your favorite playlist. Pour yourself something you enjoy. Sit quietly while your mask does its thing.

Make your skincare routine less about correcting everything you see in the mirror and more about taking care of the person you see in it.

Because skincare is self-care—but sometimes the most important part isn’t the skincare at all.

It’s the quality time you finally gave yourself.

So tonight, before the week starts again, give yourself a few uninterrupted minutes. What does your Self-Care Sunday look like?
